Lily grabbed her basket and raced across the sunny meadow. “Wait!” she called as a butterfly dipped toward the forest edge.
The butterfly bobbed lower, sprinkling petals through the grass. Lily hurried after it, calling, “Wait for me!”
Under the trees, Lily stepped over twisting roots and around feathery ferns. Leaves swished overhead as she followed the fluttering wings.
A low branch gave the basket a bonk. Lily lifted it high and ducked beneath the leaves.
The butterfly vanished beside a curtain of vines. Lily pushed through and found a hidden spring. Plip-plop went the water over smooth stones.
A tiny squeak came from beside the spring. Lily knelt and saw a baby bunny peeking around a rock.
Lily reached gently, but the bunny hopped behind the rock. She placed a carrot from her basket beside the spring.
The bunny popped out for the carrot—then bounced straight into the basket. “Oh!” Lily cried as the basket wobbled.
Lily carried the basket carefully home through the meadow. The baby bunny snuggled into the soft cloth.
Above them, the butterfly circled in the golden light. Behind them, the spring’s bright plip-plop faded into the trees.
