Little Ms. Fox trotted into the golden meadow. Her blue ribbon bow bounced as she followed a dancing sunbeam. She paused, ears perking up. Something small and silver was fluttering near the clover.
She crept closer and saw a tiny butterfly with a crumpled wing. It was struggling on a daisy stem. Little Ms. Fox knelt and held out her paw. 'It's okay, little one,' she whispered.
A breeze shook the meadow grass. The butterfly nearly blew away. Little Ms. Fox cupped her paws around it like a tiny lantern. Her ears folded down in concentration.
A bumblebee buzzed loudly and landed on a flower. Its wings made the petals vibrate. Little Ms. Fox giggled and patted the butterfly gently. She pretended to whisper a secret, and the bee tilted its head in confusion.
Little Ms. Fox sat very still. The sun warmed her fur. The butterfly rested quietly in her cupped paws. She watched its wing slowly uncrumple, the silver flash growing stronger.
The butterfly lifted one wing, then the other. It hovered for a moment before landing on Little Ms. Fox's nose. She didn't blink or move. Her whiskers tickled the butterfly's legs.
With a soft flutter, the butterfly rose into the golden air. It circled around her head twice. Little Ms. Fox reached up on tiptoes, her ribbon bow fluttering. 'Go on now,' she whispered.
Little Ms. Fox watched the butterfly drift toward the sunflower patch. Then she turned and trotted home. Her pace was slow and happy. The meadow felt warm and bright, and her paws felt light with something wonderful.
