The living room was full of toys. The family dog napped near the rug.
Lotte found a tube of green face paint and a long-necked costume in the toy chest. She painted spots on her cheeks and pulled on the costume. I'm going to grow up as a giraffe!
She stretched her neck and stomped across the tiles, pretending to munch leaves from the top shelf.
She reached and reached but the shelf stayed just out of reach. She let out a frustrated groan and dropped her arms.
She caught her reflection in the hallway mirror. The giraffe costume made her look tall, green, and very happy. She grinned back at herself and puffed out her chest.
Then she remembered that real giraffes don't climb.
Lotte took off the costume and set it down, then stomped in her bare feet. I'm Lotte, and I'm the tallest, happiest girl ever!
The dog barked once and trotted after her as she ran across the floor.
