Lucy stepped onto the stone patio. A pink blossom drifted down. 'Spring?' she whispered.
She picked it up. Held the blossom to her cheek. Her eyes closed. 'Spring?' she whispered.
Lucy ran onto the patio. The stones were hot. She hopped from foot to foot. 'Summer!' she laughed.
She lay down on the warm stones. Let the sun soak in. 'Summer,' she thought.
A red leaf spiraled down. Landed on her nose. 'Autumn?' she said.
She caught the leaf. Traced its veins. 'Autumn,' she thought.
A snowflake landed on her tongue. She tasted cold and sweet. 'Winter!' she exclaimed.
The whole world was white. She jumped up and down. The snow crunched. 'Winter!' she exclaimed.
She sat on the patio and opened her wooden box. Inside: a blossom, a jar of sunbeam, a leaf, a snowflake. She smiled.
She closed the box. Looked toward the garden path. Ready for the next season.
