Golden sunlight covered the wide meadow like a soft blanket. Lumi the rabbit hopped along the grassy edge near the trees, her long ears perked high and alert.
Then she stopped mid-hop. A strange kree-kree-kree sound drifted from the dark treeline of Whispering Woods. Her long ears swiveled forward and her nose wiggled.
She hopped toward the sound, her paws crunching on dry leaves. In the tall grass, she found something tiny and yellow — a baby bird.
She picked it up gently, cupping it in her paws. Its warm heartbeat pulsed steadily against her paw. She thought this tiny creature needed help finding its family.
The baby bird waddled away toward a bush. Lumi's ears drooped and she scratched her foot. Then she looked up and spotted a tall tree.
A hollow trunk sat high up, and a blue feather drifted down from it. She carried the bird over and bounced up and down, trying to reach.
The bird hopped down and waddled behind a thick green bush. Lumi followed closely, her long whiskers brushing tangled brown roots. She pushed through the branches and gasped.
Inside the dark hollow, a mama bird and three fluffy siblings peeked out at her. The mama bird's eyes went wide with relief. 'There you are!' she chirped.
The mama bird swooped down from the hollow and wrapped her wings around Lumi in a warm hug. The baby bird nestled deep into her soft fur.
The tiny chick tickled her nose with a soft peep. Her long ears shot straight up and a big smile spread across her face.
Lumi sat by the tall tree and watched the birds flutter around her. Their wings made a soft shush-shush sound against the green leaves.
The mama bird dropped a bright blue feather right at Lumi's paw. She picked it up and held it close, smiling at the little family.
