Lumi grabbed his red lunchbox and marched out the front door. He pointed at the sky and whispered, 'Today I find ten!' A breeze flipped his hair.
A rumble led him to a construction site. A yellow dump truck shook gravel onto the road. 'One!' he said and patted the warm hood.
He counted past a red fire engine whooshing through the garage. A green tow truck tooted by. Then three blue buses idled in a row.
At the harbor, Lumi gasped. A long ferry, a sailboat, a fishing boat, a speedboat, a tugboat, a barge, and a tiny dinghy bobbed in the water.
'Four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten!' he shouted. He clapped both hands until his palms stung.
Lumi stood on the dock and waved. The vehicles rumbled, beeped, and chugged away into the distance.
The harbor smelled like salt and diesel. He hugged his lunchbox tight and breathed it all in.
Lumi smiled. Tomorrow, he would find ten again. He could already hear the bicycle bell ringing.
