Luna trotted through the schoolhouse gate. Behind the playground slide, a wolf poked out his nose. Clang! Her lunch pail hit the path.
Leaves rustled along the forest edge. “Shhh,” they seemed to whisper. Luna backed toward the schoolhouse, holding her little schoolbook close.
The wolf growled at the outdoor chalkboard. Luna opened her book. “A is for apple,” she read.
The wolf’s ears twitched. A fallen apple rolled from the tree and bonked his head. Plop!
Luna stepped closer. “B is for brave,” she said. The wolf opened his mouth to growl again.
A bright red crayon rolled under the wolf’s paw. He wobbled, spun, and landed in the sandbox. Poof!
The wolf climbed out and blocked the playground gate. Luna planted her hooves and lifted her book.
“You may be grumpy, but you do not have to scare us.” The swing chains squeaked. Then everything went quiet.
The wolf lowered his head and picked up Luna’s lunch pail. He carried it gently toward her.
Luna gave the wolf an apple. He picked up a piece of chalk and drew a silly apple with a giant nose.
Soon, the wolf’s nose was red with chalk. Luna giggled and trotted into school beside him.
Inside, the reading nook waited with bright cushions. Luna and the wolf settled near the alphabet shelf, still giggling at the silly apple drawings.
