Self-belief through brave problem-solving

KRAK! The sound sliced through the night. Luna raced into the glowing town square, where a crack split the moon from rim to rim. Silver light dripped between its edges. She lifted her telescope and whispered, “I can fix this,” while the moon dimmed above the chimneys.

The moonlight faded another shade. Luna hurried home and gathered a ladder, copper wire, and a jar of starlight. She stacked everything beside the clock tower, then studied the darkening sky. Her sketchbook lay open nearby, waiting for a plan clever enough to reach the heavens.

Up the tower she climbed, carrying the wire and jar. At the highest platform, Luna stretched the copper wire into the moonbeam. FIZZLE! The wire burst into tiny glowing fish that swam through the air. Luna laughed, then grabbed her sketchbook. “Back to drawing,” she thought.

Luna drew a kite as wide as the moon, with copper ribs and a silver tail. She folded the blueprint, built the strange kite, and carried it to the tallest rooftop. The first launch snapped beautifully into the wind. For one bright second, the kite climbed straight toward the crack.

WHOOSH! A sudden gust spun the kite sideways. Its silver tail wrapped around the town bell. CLANG, CLANG, CLANG! The kite tore. Luna pulled it free, wiped soot from her blueprint, and watched the crack pulse each time the bell rang.

Luna listened. CLANG… pause… CLANG-CLANG. The crack answered: flash… pause… flash-flash. She copied the rhythm in her sketchbook, then tied the starlight jar’s ribbon to a strong hook. “The bell knows the way,” she thought.

CLANG… pause… CLANG-CLANG! Luna rang the bell in the careful rhythm. The jar slid along the moonbeam, sparkling like a tiny comet. Then the ribbon slipped. The jar drifted toward the widening crack, faster and faster, carrying its precious light straight into danger.

Luna leaped. Her fingers caught the ribbon just before the jar vanished into the crack. The moonbeam swung beneath her like a shining bridge. She pulled the jar close, listened for the bell, and guided the starlight toward the broken edges. CLANG… CLANG-CLANG! The light poured in.
