Luna hopped out of her burrow at dusk. She pulled her little wooden toothbrush from her pocket and held it up to the fireflies. "Time to brush," she whispered.
Luna walked to the babbling brook. She squeezed a dab of minty paste onto her brush — but a breeze stole it away.
She dropped to her knees and searched, her nose nearly touching the clover. Then she spotted a tiny smear on a dandelion leaf.
Luna squeezed again and brushed with wide, determined circles. But the brush slipped from her wet paws and tumbled into the water.
Luna stared at the ripples, her lower lip trembling. A dragonfly swooped down, grabbed the brush, and dropped it onto a flat stone.
Luna brushed with wide, determined circles. A firefly landed on her toothbrush and glowed so bright her teeth sparkled. She giggled so hard she sprayed minty bubbles everywhere — one landed on her nose and wiggled.
Luna rinsed at the brook, then hopped back toward her burrow with her toothbrush tucked safely in her pocket.
She curled up under a leaf blanket, the fireflies blinking outside, and closed her eyes with a sleepy smile.
