Rain tapped the windows while Marina dove into the sofa cushions. Up she popped, shouting, “Swim, swim, swim!”
The cushions puffed and thumped. Marina giggled as the living room turned into a wide, wobbly ocean.
Marina paddled from cushion to cushion. Then she swept a curtain aside like a great sea wave.
The curtain swished over Marina’s head. “I found a secret current!” she declared.
Marina stacked cushions across the rug and draped curtains around them. Soon, her ocean had grown enormous.
Rain tapped harder at the window. One cushion flopped down with a soft poof, but Marina kept building.
Marina climbed onto the tallest cushion. She bent her knees, ready to leap.
“Splash!” Marina leaped. The living room vanished into blue water, and shining waves rolled over everything.
Marina swam through the shining waves. A silver seashell drifted slowly toward her.
The silver seashell landed in Marina’s hand. Its spiral shone like a tiny moon beneath the waves.
Marina woke on the rug. Rain pattered outside, and the silver seashell rested in her hand.
Marina pressed the shell to her ear and smiled. “The sea came to visit,” she whispered.
