Marina hovered at the very bottom of the ocean. Golden light shimmered far, far above. 'I want to see what's up there,' she said.
The dolphin swam down and nudged her fin. 'I'll help you get there,' it called. Marina kicked her tail as hard as she could and swam upward.
They bumped gently into a jellyfish — boop — and Marina giggled as it pulsed away. Higher and higher she swam.
The water started to feel warm and strange. Marina stretched her arms toward the sparkles of light and pushed with all her might, but she couldn't quite reach.
She hung there, breathless. The surface was still just out of reach. The dolphin circled above and called, 'You're almost there!'
Marina took one big breath and launched herself upward with a mighty kick. SPLASH! She broke through into warm sunshine, salt on her lips, and the sky stretching wide and blue above her.
The dolphin leaped right out of the water beside her, splashing droplets everywhere.
Marina floated on her back, giggling, as the dolphin swam in happy circles around her. 'This is the biggest adventure ever,' she said.
She dipped her hand in the water and watched the sunlight dance beneath her fingers.
Marina bobbed gently in the warm water. Everything felt wonderful.
The biggest adventure ever. Marina smiled at the sky.
She had reached the surface. And the whole wide world was waiting.
