Max stepped inside, ears twitching. Something new smelled everywhere.
A tennis ball rolled toward him — then zipped backward with a soft whir!
Max barked once and paws at the moving ball. He could play with this!
He chased the ball into the kitchen. The human was cooking with their back turned.
Max jumped up and knocked a spoon onto the floor with a loud clang! The human turned and smiled. 'Hello, new friend.'
At the park, Max ran fast across the green grass. His ears flapped in the wind.
A duck quacked loudly! Max spun in a circle and sneezed. He blinked at the pond.
Max spotted a feather floating on the pond. He grabbed it and trotted back to the human.
The human smiled and scratched behind his big ears. 'A gift! What a good dog.'
That evening, Max curled up on the rug. The house felt different now. It felt like home.
The human sat beside him and stroked his fur. Max's eyes closed slowly.
Max slept soundly. His tail gave one last slow thump against the floor.
