Maya’s fingers hover over the keyboard, but her eyes lock onto a dusty, curled map tucked inside her textbook. The hum of the classroom computers fades into the rhythmic clip-clop of imaginary hooves against cobblestone.
She slides her chair back and marches toward the whiteboard, where a picture of a majestic stallion hangs next to the alphabet chart. Maya grabs a piece of chalk and draws three swift, galloping legs beneath the horse's neck, smudging the blue dust onto her jeans.
A loud beep from the teacher’s computer interrupts her daydream, causing Maya to jump and knock her pencil case off the desk. Pencils scatter across the floor with a sharp clatter, sounding suspiciously like horseshoes striking stone in an empty stable.
Maya kneels quickly to gather the scattered pencils, stacking them into a tall, wobbling tower that resembles a saddlebag filled with supplies. She whispers, 'Steady now,' as she carefully places her eraser on top, balancing it with intense concentration.
The tower stands firm for a heartbeat before tipping over, sending the eraser rolling under the nearest desk just as the bell rings. Maya smiles, tucking the rolled map into her pocket, ready to carry her adventure home.
The classroom empties out, leaving only the quiet hum of the ventilation system. Sunlight stretches across the empty desks, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air like tiny stars.
Outside, the wind rustles the leaves of the old oak tree, whispering secrets of distant lands. The world beyond the window seems larger, brighter, and full of hidden paths waiting to be found.
Maya walks down the hallway, her backpack bouncing lightly against her shoulders. The map in her pocket feels warm, a secret treasure guiding her steps toward the unknown.
