Goku landed in the village clearing with a soft thud. Dust swirled around his orange gi. Shayan ran forward and bowed deeply.
"Teach me to train!" he said, leaping into the air. He aimed for the sky — and crashed into the hay pile with a muffled thump.
He clenched his fists and took a deep breath. "Huuuuh!" came out as a squeak. A small bird fluttered off the branch.
He scuffed his shoe and tried again. Nothing came out. Goku just nodded and smiled.
Next, spirit energy. He cupped his hands, concentrated hard, and blew. Big round bubbles floated up into the sky.
Goku caught one bubble and giggled. Shayan covered his mouth, then grinned anyway.
After hours of practice, Goku sat heavily against a stone. His water skin tipped and emptied onto the dry ground.
Shayan's eyes went wide. He remembered the old well and sprinted toward it.
He returned with a full wooden bucket, water sloshing over the sides. Goku drank deeply and set it aside.
Goku placed a hand on Shayan's shoulder and pointed toward the mountain path. Shayan nodded and walked beside him as the sun painted the mist gold.
