Mehu lifted the pink lid from her birthday cake. Tazqu reached up and smeared frosting across her nose. “Oh!”
Outside, the sparkling snow flashed pink. Mehu blinked at the window, frosting still perched on her nose.
Mehu wiped her nose and placed a tiny cake piece on Tazqu’s tray. Tazqu clapped. Clink, clink!
Tazqu opened wide for another bite. Mehu giggled and brought over a second piece.
Mehu blew out her birthday candles. Tazqu blew too—PFFFFT! Frosting flew onto the pink lights.
Mehu laughed and wiped the pink lights with a soft cloth. One by one, they glowed clearly again.
Mehu brought Tazqu close for a birthday hug. Then she shared her favorite pink cupcake.
Tazqu patted Mehu’s shiny makeup case. Mehu smiled as laughter filled the cozy room.
Mehu carried the empty plate while Tazqu babbled beside her. “Ba-ba-ba!”
Under the sparkling snow and glowing pink lights, Mehu hugged Tazqu again. Cake, giggles, and love began her birthday celebration.
