Kindness and the magic of selflessness

Merlin leaps over a mossy log, his sparkling ballet flats catching the silver moonlight as he bounds toward the glowing forest. Puck trails behind, juggling three pinecones and nearly dropping them on a patch of moon-petals. "We're almost there!" Merlin calls over his shoulder, his violet eyes bright with hope.

Puck trips over a twisting root and tumbles into a bed of luminous blue flowers that chime like tiny bells. Merlin hops backward, his flats making soft scuff sounds on the moss, and helps Puck up. The forest seems to hum with magic as the flowers glow brighter around them.

Puck stomps his foot and huffs, "I just want to wish for a mountain of candy!" He turns and marches deeper into the trees, leaving Merlin alone by the chiming flowers. Merlin follows, his footsteps growing quieter with each step.

Merlin finds a single Wish Flower pulsing with golden light at the center of a hidden glade, and Puck's shadow appears behind it. Puck lunges forward with greedy hands, but Merlin gently steps in front of the flower and closes his eyes, whispering, "I wish for everyone in the village to feel this magic too."

The Wish Flower blazes with brilliant light that washes over Merlin's face, and a wide, tearful smile spreads across his lips as warmth floods through him.

Golden light erupts from the flower and spills out into the forest, racing across the trees and spilling beyond the glade toward the quiet village. Merlin and Puck stand side by side, bathed in the glowing radiance, their faces alight with wonder.
