curious, cheerful, brave

friendship and wonder under the stars

Mia climbed the grassy hill behind her house. Stars twinkled everywhere. She heard someone whispering up ahead.

Mia peeked over the ridge. A boy was pointing at the sky. "Want to see something?" he asked.

Mia crept closer and sat beside him. He showed her a bear made of stars.

Then he showed her a spoon. Mia pointed to one that looked just like her favorite spoon at home.

"The brightest star is hiding up there," Adam said, pointing to the very top of the hill.

They tiptoed through the tall grass. A firefly bumped into Mia's nose and zoomed away.

They reached the top and gasped. The brightest star blinked and said, "Hello, friends."

Mia dropped her shoe. Adam grinned so wide his cheeks turned pink. The star winked and flared gold.

Mia walked home with Adam beside her. Both of them kept looking up at the sky.

The brightest star followed them all the way down the hill. It glowed a little brighter with every step.

Mia's shoe was still somewhere near the top, but she didn't mind.

The sky was full of stars. And one of them was watching over her.
