Mia raced down the shiny school hallway, clutching a paper friendship bracelet. Suddenly, it flew from her hand and skidded away. “Oh!”
The bracelet slid to a stop at the classmate’s shoes. Mia hurried over and picked it up. She held it out again.
The classmate smiled. Then the bell rang—BZZZ! Everyone hurried inside, and Mia was left holding the bracelet.
At recess, Mia followed the classmate onto the playground. She waved once, then whispered, “Hi.”
Mia tried one tiny jump beside the swings. On the third jump, she landed in fallen leaves with a loud FWOOMP!
Mia pulled the bracelet from the leaves and held it out. The classmate slipped it on, then offered Mia a matching one.
Both bracelets had silly paper tails. The tails flapped in the wind—swish, swish! Mia and the classmate laughed.
Mia and the classmate walked back to class side by side. Their bracelets fluttered like tiny flags.
