Silver leaves shimmered beneath the moon. Milo spotted a fallen star glowing under a branch.
He scrambled through the leaves. The star gave a tiny ping. “I’ll help you,” Milo whispered.
Milo pushed the branch with both paws. It rolled one inch, then bumped him backward.
Crunch! Milo landed in a leaf pile. He popped up, shook leaves from his ears, and tried again.
Milo found a smooth stone and wedged it beneath the branch. Then he pushed harder.
Up went the branch! Zip went the star. It bounced off Milo’s nose with a bright boing.
The star boinged into soft moss. Milo gently nudged it onto his tail.
Milo carried the star up a clear hilltop. Above the trees, the night sky opened wide.
Milo lifted his tail toward the sky. The star rose slowly, then paused above him.
Flash! The star shone brighter than every other star. Silver light spilled across the peaceful forest.
The star settled into its place. Milo swished his tail through sparkling grass.
Ping! Milo looked up and smiled. The star twinkled back above the quiet trees.
