Milo counted stars in the cozy meadow. “One, two, three…”
A little star slipped from the sky. Ping! It landed softly in the grass, and Milo froze beside it.
Milo scooped up the little star. It wiggled and flashed, making the nearby clover sparkle.
“Oh!” Milo whispered. The star bounced from Milo’s paws and rolled away.
Milo hopped after it. The star rolled beneath a fern, over a pebble, and into moonlit flowers.
Each time Milo reached for it, the star gave a tiny ping and rolled farther. “Wait!” Milo called.
At last, Milo caught the star under a broad leaf. It winked between the green veins.
Milo climbed the tall hill and tossed the star toward the sky. Plop! It landed on Milo’s ears.
Milo climbed higher, carrying the little star carefully. The hilltop waited beneath the widest part of the sky.
At the top, Milo lifted the little star as high as possible. Up it floated, settling among the others.
The little star twinkled warmly down at Milo. The meadow grew quiet and bright.
Milo counted again. “One, two, three…” Above, every star shone in its place.
