At the forest-village edge, Milo lifted a strange map from beneath a fern. The paper looked blank beneath the fading dusk. Then the full moon rose, and silver paths shimmered across it. One bright trail pointed toward the glowing meadow. Milo whispered, “What are you hiding?”

Milo followed the moonlit trail between whispering pines. Needles rustled overhead, and pale shadows slid across the path. At last, the silver line stopped beside a lively stream. Milo studied the water, then gathered flat stones from the bank.

One stone landed with a plop. Another made a steady bridge. The last stone popped upright and squeaked, “Peep!” like a tiny trumpet. Milo leaped back, scattering pebbles. Then Milo placed the squeaky stone again, very carefully.

Across the stream, the map’s path split beneath dangling lantern-moths. Three silver trails curled through the grass. Milo chose the brightest one. It looped around a hollow tree, slipped behind a stump, and returned to the very place where Milo had begun.

Milo unfolded the map again. Moonlight flashed across its blank corner, revealing a new mark. The mark pointed toward a dark bramble tunnel. Milo crouched low and pushed through the thorny opening, where the silver trail flickered like a thread.

The tunnel opened into the meadow. There, the map was pinned to a stone beside a locked, glowing door. A silver key slipped from the door and vanished in tall grass. Milo called, “Where did you go?” No answer came—only a faint jingle somewhere ahead.

Milo stopped searching with hurried paws. Instead, Milo listened. Jingle… jingle… The sound came from beneath a curled leaf near the meadow’s edge. Milo lifted the leaf and found the silver key shining in the grass.

Milo fitted the key into the glowing door. Click. The lock opened, and silver light spilled across the grass. Beyond the doorway waited a small mirror-pool, perfectly still. In its surface, Milo saw a fox beneath a crown of stars.

The map dissolved into silver sparks above the pool. They drifted upward, then scattered across the meadow like fireflies. Milo stepped through the doorway and began the walk home. Behind Milo, the pool held its stars without a ripple.

The shining path carried Milo past the hollow tree and over the squeaky stone. The little trumpet gave one soft peep. At the village edge, moonlight faded from the mapless path, but Milo kept walking, ready for whatever the next step might reveal.
