Milo and Daisy spotted a tiny kitten shivering by the roadside.
Milo crouched and scooped the kitten into his jacket pocket. Daisy clapped her hands. "We have to find its home!"
They gathered blankets and cardboard from nearby porches. Their first two nests were too small.
On the third try, a bumblebee buzzed and landed on the blanket. The kitten curled up beside it and fell asleep.
They knocked on several doors. Most neighbors shook their heads.
Milo's steps grew slower. Then a little girl with rain boots burst out of a house, crying, "Whiskers!"
The kitten jumped from Milo's arms and ran straight to her feet.
The girl hugged Milo and Daisy, then offered them each a warm oat cookie.
The kitten purred loudly against her legs.
Milo smiled and took a bite. The cookie tasted like victory.
