Milo and Daisy scrambled down the grassy hill. Their bare feet slapped the dirt path. "Look!" Daisy whispered.
Something white and fluffy sat near the reeds. Milo crouched low and crept forward on his belly.
A tiny kitten sat there, its fur tangled with leaves. It let out a squeaky meow. Milo held out one finger.
The kitten sniffed his finger. Then — puff! — it sneezed. The sneeze rattled the nearest wildflower.
Milo picked up the kitten and they walked toward the cottage. A butterfly landed on the kitten's head. Daisy gently shooed it away.
The kitten purred so loudly it vibrated against Milo's chest. They reached the cottage door.
Milo knocked once. The door creaked open. A woman peered out, her eyes wide.
"Oh!" she gasped. The kitten bolted from Milo's arms and zoomed straight into her legs. She knelt down fast.
She hugged the kitten tight. Then she pulled two small sandwiches from her pocket.
Milo and Daisy sat on the step and ate. The kitten curled up in her lap and fell asleep right away.
The kitten slept peacefully. Milo's shoes tapped happily against the wood.
Milo thought this was the best day ever.
