Milo spots the red-and-white checkered blanket under the big oak tree. He breaks into a run.
His laughter bounces off the grass like a rubber ball. He reaches the blanket just as his mom unfolds a basket of sandwiches.
Milo chases his yellow ball into the tall grass, but it vanishes with a soft plop. He drops to his knees and peers at the green blades.
Then he hears a tiny ribbit and sees the ball bobbing on a lily pad in a nearby puddle.
Milo scoops up the wet ball and shouts, 'Froggy!' to his family.
His sister claps her hands and his dad grins, while his mom fans herself with a napkin. They all gather around the puddle, watching the frog hop away with the ball stuck to its back.
Milo shares his apple slice with his sister, and they crunch together under the shade. His mom sings a silly song about frogs.
And his dad pretends to conduct an orchestra with a breadstick. As the sun dips low, Milo rests his head on his dad's shoulder, still smiling.
