Milo pushed open the creaky attic door and climbed the wobbly stairs. Dust floated in the golden light like tiny stars.
He tripped over the trunk and landed face-down on a rolled-up paper. His eyes went wide. It was a map!
Milo sat up and smoothed the map flat. One path led behind the bookshelf. Another pointed toward the attic window.
He crept past the rocking horse and the tall bookshelf. Something glinted on a dusty shelf.
It was a small brass key. 'This must be it,' Milo thought, closing his fingers around it.
Milo followed the map down the dusty stairs and out into the garden. The old oak tree stood at the edge of the yard.
Under the oak tree, Milo found a loose stone. He pried it up and looked inside.
Inside was a small wooden box with a brass lock. Milo turned the key — click!
Milo lifted the lid. Inside were a telescope, a compass, and a yellowed note.
Milo unrolled the note. It read: 'For the bravest explorer — your adventure has just begun.'
Milo raised the telescope to his eye and peered across the garden. He grinned from ear to ear.
'Tomorrow,' Milo whispered to himself. 'Tomorrow we explore everything.'
