Mimi darted after a yellow butterfly between the tall daisies. At the bend in the winding path, it slipped through a curtain of leaves. Mimi skidded to a stop on the sunny grass. “Whoa,” whispered Mimi.
Mimi pushed through the leaves and found a hidden leafy nook. Soft moss covered the ground. Flower petals glowed in spots of gold sunlight. Mimi laughed and hopped from stone to stone. “This is my magic castle!”
Then the yellow butterfly landed on Mimi’s nose. Mimi went still and looked cross-eyed at it. With one tiny flutter, it lifted away again, as if saying, “Come play some more!”
Mimi gathered fallen petals for treasure and lined up twig wands on the moss. Then Mimi twirled in a happy circle. A tall flower bent low and puff! pollen sprinkled down. Mimi blinked. “Achoo!”
At the giant sneeze, a swirl of butterflies burst up all at once. They sparkled in the bright air like the nook had woken up. Mimi flopped onto the soft moss, then marched around grandly, tapping each twig wand and bowing to the flowers.
The sun turned orange. Mimi smiled at the fluttering leaves and the sweet garden smell. Then Mimi headed home along the winding path. Behind the curtain of leaves, the hidden nook waited quietly for tomorrow’s play.
