Mina slaps her bare feet on the kitchen tiles. She leaps into the air — BOING! — and lands with a thud. The cereal boxes rattle on the shelf.
She grins wide and jumps again, harder this time. The floor shakes beneath her feet. Each bounce soars even higher!
With her eyes wide open, Mina marches into the garden. She spots a rainbow of flowers — red poppies, yellow daisies, purple lupines — blazing in the sun.
She crouches beside a bush and runs her fingers along a fuzzy green leaf, then a prickly rose stem. She makes faces at every touch.
She presses her palms flat on the garden wall, then holds one hand up to her ear. "Hello, wind," she whispers. A rustle answers from the trees above, and she laughs out loud.
Mina cups her hands around her mouth and yells, "WOOOOO!" The sound booms back from the hill. She jumps every time it echoes.
She tips her head back and lets the rain tickle her nose and cheeks. Then she sticks out her tongue and catches a single drop — cool and sweet.
Mina stands in the garden, tall as she can stand. She thinks, I can jump and see and touch and taste — I am amazing! She spins in a happy circle and throws her arms up high.
