Miral pushed open the wardrobe doors. Raphael and Michelangelo tumbled out in a heap on her yellow bed.
She gasped and covered her mouth. The turtles scrambled to their feet and waved. Miral pulled them into a group hug.
The turtles marched across the floor. Miral clapped to their beat. Michelangelo did a silly cartwheel.
Raphael pretended to throw a shell at the mirror. It winked back. Miral giggled.
Raphael pulled a tiny pizza from behind his back. Miral took a big crunchy bite and grinned.
Michelangelo balanced his orange cap on his head. Miral balanced a yellow pillow on hers instead.
The turtles gathered their things by the wardrobe. Miral hugged them both tightly. 'I will miss you already,' she whispered.
Raphael ruffled her hair with his paw. Michelangelo gave a thumbs up. 'We will come back,' Raphael said.
The turtles waved and disappeared into the wardrobe. Miral climbed into bed and pulled up her yellow blanket.
She traced the spot on the blanket where they had sat. Her fingers remembered their tiny footsteps.
Miral closed her eyes. She imagined Raphael and Michelangelo waiting for her in the wardrobe, ready for the next adventure.
The wardrobe stayed open just a crack, glowing softly, while the girl slept soundly through the night.
