Mo pressed her nose flat against the cool glass. Pink and gold bubbles swirled past her, catching the light. She squinted and smiled.
A yellow baby shark glided right up to her face, grinning. Pop! A wet splat hit the glass. Mo's eyes went wide.
The shark circled the bubbles once, twice. Then it squeezed into the far corner and pressed its small fins flat against the wall.
Tap. Tap. Mo knocked on the glass. The shark scuffled backward and ducked behind a tall stack of blue bubbles. Mo frowned, her finger hovering.
Mo waved her hand. The shark scooted deeper. She waved bigger, arms splashing the air. The shark ducked behind a purple bubble—gone.
Mo pressed her cheek to the glass. Still. Quiet. Then, after a long, long moment, one tiny yellow fin peeked out.
Mo slid her fingertip slowly across the glass, drawing a path toward the bright middle. The shark peeled off the wall and followed, inch by inch.
The shark spun in a circle. Three round bubbles rose up—pop, pop, pop—right against Mo's palm.
Mo grinned and wiggled her fingers. The shark wiggled its tail, waved back with one yellow fin, then darted into the color-bright swirl. Gone.
Mo watched the bubbles spin. "Bye, little friend," she whispered. She kept her palm pressed to the glass a little longer.
