A bright shimmer landed softly in the moss with a little whisper. A tiny golden star had fallen from the sky.
Momo crept closer, eyes wide. He gently gathered the star into his cupped paws.
The star felt warm and faintly hummed against his fur. Momo tied his sky-blue scarf around it and set off.
Moonlight threaded between the trunks and fireflies drifted past like floating lanterns. Momo stepped over pebbles and low roots.
They reached the Tall Hill, where the sky dipped closest to the ground. Momo lifted the star high into the cool night air.
The star wobbled free and floated upward like a golden dandelion seed. It landed back among its neighbors with a happy twinkle.
The star glowed a little warmer than before. Momo thought, That is the best feeling in the whole wide world.
Momo watched from the hilltop as the forest lights flickered around him. His scarf fluttered in the gentle night breeze.
He curled up in the soft moss, tucked his paws close, and closed his eyes.
The forest lights flickered softly all around him. Somewhere far above, a golden star twinkled a little warmer than before.
Momo dreamed of the sky, where his friend twinkled back at him. Everything was perfect.
High above in the velvet sky, the golden star shone on — brighter, warmer, and never alone again.
