Courage in exploring the unknown

Orin crouched beside a mossy stone and brushed away centuries of dust. A carved map shimmered into view — its blue lines glowing faintly, tracing a path toward the Cloud Summit. Nobody had ever reached the Summit. Nobody had ever come back.

Orin's fingers followed the glowing line, tracing the invisible path through the stone. The blue mark pulsed once, twice — and then the ink climbed upward, pointing straight toward the clouds above. A cool breeze swept across the island. It carried the scent of rain from somewhere far away, high above.

The stone path ended at a gap — a sheer drop between two floating islands. Orin paused at the edge. A silver fox stepped from the glowing forest behind, tail high, and bit through a dangling vine. The rope fell taut. Orin tied it around a boulder, took a breath, and swung.

The rope creaked. Orin flew through the empty air between islands, the gap yawning below. Feet hit solid stone — the other side. Behind, the silver fox watched from the forest edge, tail curled neatly. Orin stood, turned, and held out a hand. The fox hesitated, then trotted forward.

At the summit, a pedestal rose from the cloud-washed stone. On it rested a smooth pale stone, vibrating so gently the air around it hummed. Orin knelt. The stone called — not with sound, but with something older, something that pulled at the edge of sight.

Orin touched the stone. It rippled like water, and in that ripple — the world opened. Every floating island, every glowing forest, every hidden path spread out below like a map drawn in the sky. Orin breathed in, wide-eyed. Then the vision faded, and the stone went dark.

A small silver fox appeared from behind the pedestal and nudged the stone with its nose. The stone went dark, then re-etched itself — a new arrow pointing downward, back toward the valley. Orin pocketed the map-stone. The fox sat, tail twitching, as if to say: let's go.

Orin walked down the ancient path, the map-stone warm in the pocket. The silver fox trotted alongside, ears forward, tail high. Above, the clouds began to part for the first time in years — a shaft of sunlight reaching down through the gap, illuminating the glowing forest below.
