Navaz's phone buzzed in his pocket. He pulled it out and saw: "Hi Navaz! It's Maya!"
Every day, ding! ding! Navaz and Maya sent messages back and forth. Maya sent silly cat stickers and wobbly smiley faces.
One day, a new message popped up: "Can we meet this weekend?" Navaz spun around in his chair.
He opened his closet and tried on three different hats before picking the blue one. "This one!"
Navaz walked into the big shiny mall. Glass cases sparkled with watches and jewelry. "Maya?" he called.
He spotted someone with long hair and waved, but it was a mannequin in a bright red scarf. Navaz blinked and laughed.
Then Navaz saw Maya across the mall, waving back in her spinning yellow dress. "Maya!"
Navaz ran toward her, sneakers squeaking on the shiny floor. They met with big smiles.
They stood face to face, grinning. A grandfather clock nearby chimed once, making both kids jump and giggle.
"You're real!" Navaz said. Maya laughed. "You too!" They walked off together down the shiny mall corridor.
