Paula pulled on her shirt for the first day of school. It caught on her head, and she bumped into a pillow.
“Where did Paula go?” she asked as the shirt popped free. Her hair sprang up, and she blinked at the ceiling.
Paula finished getting ready and sat at the breakfast table. She reached for a spoon, but it spun away with a shiny clatter.
Paula chased it past the chair. The spoon skittered, twirled, and stopped just before the kitchen door.
Paula carried her bag outside and walked toward school. At the gate, children played while her shoes scuffed over the gravel.
A pencil slipped from Paula’s hand. Another child picked it up, and Paula said, “Thank you.”
A ball rolled toward Paula. She rolled it back, and it bounced into a flowerpot with a tiny pop.
Paula sat with the children at breakfast time and opened her lunch. She smiled as a red apple rolled around the table.
