Peri landed softly on a mossy root. She tilted her head. Something was wrong up ahead.
A baby owl shivered in a tangle of ivy. It chirped a worried little squeak.
Peri worked the vines loose, one by one. The baby owl stopped squeaking.
She lifted the owl onto her shoulder and took off. The path ahead was dark.
A shadowy creature blocked the way. It made a rustling shoo-shoo sound.
Peri flew higher. Her wings buzzed like a frantic little bee.
The baby owl pecked a glowing mushroom. It popped open with a puff of sparkles.
Peri sneezed — Achoo! — and spun in a dizzy circle. She steadied herself.
A sudden wind shook the branches. The owl nearly fell off!
Peri gripped the bark and climbed. Her wings glowed bright in the dark.
The mother owl swooped down. She wrapped her wings around the baby.
Peri smiled. The forest glowed peacefully around her. Home at last.
