The bathroom door stood open. Warm sunlight spilled across the tile floor. Perry stood in the doorway, listening.
Perry did a little hop-stop. His bumpy green fingers pressed against his belly. "Oh," he whispered.
He patted his head and shook it. Then he wiggled each toe, looking down. "Not there," he told the rubber duck.
Perry climbed onto the step stool. He pulled a book from the shelf. The cover showed a colorful potty chair.
"Is this it?" Perry asked the wind-up train. The train sat silent on the rug.
Perry marched to the potty chair. He sat down very carefully, holding his breath.
A happy little glug echoed in the quiet room. Perry's eyes went wide. Then he let out a giggle.
Perry stood up tall. He struck a proud pose beside the potty chair. "I did it!"
The bathroom door creaked open. Dad peeked his head inside, then his whole face broke into a big smile.
"You did it!" Dad said, scooping Perry up in a hug. Perry wiggled with joy.
Perry wiggled all the way to the sink. He washed his hands under the running water.
Perry dried his hands on a fluffy towel. He looked at the potty chair, then smiled. All done!
