Morning pours gold across the garden. Petalina stretches toward the sun, and a breeze flips one white petal open among the soft pink ones.
The fountain goes, “Plip, plip!” Petalina freezes and stares at the bright white surprise.
Petalina tries to hide the white petal behind the pink ones. The breeze lifts it like a tiny flag.
“Oh,” Petalina whispers. A golden leaf lands on the white petal, then slides away with a tickle.
Petalina turns away from the sunlight and folds the white petal inward. A butterfly-shaped shadow crosses the garden path.
The petals droop toward the cool soil. Then a sunbeam slips between the leaves and shines through the white petal.
Petalina opens the white petal wider, then wider still. The bright patch dances across the ground.
Petalina faces the garden and lifts every petal—pink, pink, pink, and white. The breeze swishes through them like a tiny song.
