Pip fluttered to the edge of Rainbow Island. A single glowing purple berry waited beneath a broad leaf.
Pip pecked it once. The nearest flower burst back to life in brilliant magenta. But the berry faded to grey before the color could spread.
Pip zoomed toward the shimmering pond. But the berry had gone completely grey.
'The water used to sparkle!' Poppy said, tapping the reed. It made a soft plink. Pip offered a tiny piece of the berry toward the water.
They waddled to the rainbow flower patch. A plump blue frog sat on a grey petal, arms crossed.
'My favorite bloom turned the color of dust!' the frog croaked. Pip broke off another piece. Poppy dropped it into the frog's palm. Its eyes went wide with a happy ribbit.
They hopped past the greying stream. A hidden cave glowed with soft golden light pulsing from inside.
They stepped inside. A giant crystal flower dripped liquid color, painting the walls. But it was beginning to dim.
Pip pressed the last purple piece against the stem. Poppy hummed a bright tune. The crystal flower shivered — then blazed with rainbow light.
Rainbow light raced across every petal, every puddle, every feather. The whole island blazed — and Pip and Poppy shared the sweetest berries side by side.
