Pip stepped over a mossy log and stopped.
A mushroom cap glowed with a tiny blue light. He crouched low, nose twitching.
Pip unwrapped his knitted scarf and held it near the mushroom. A firefly zipped onto a daisy. He followed.
Pip wrapped the scarf around the daisy stem. The firefly hopped away again. Pip lay down and draped the scarf over the mushroom.
The sky darkened. The first star appeared. The firefly lifted off the scarf and circled his head three times.
The firefly landed between his quills. Pip's ears perked up and he giggled softly. "Nice work, little one," he thought.
Pip and the firefly sat together under the spreading stars. The scarf kept the firefly cozy.
Pip rested his chin on his paws. The firefly pulsed slowly, like a nightlight.
