Pip pushes through the big library doors and freezes. The bookshelves tower over her like giant wooden trees.
She takes one step forward and her paws make a squeak on the shiny floor.
Pip climbs onto a stool and pulls down a book about dinosaurs. It is not about stars.
She pulls down another about boats. Also not stars. A loose bookmark flutters to the floor and lands right on her nose.
Pip tiptoes deeper between the shelves and reaches for a thick blue book on the top shelf.
The book tips forward, landing with a soft thump on her head. She sits down hard, her ears drooping flat.
A kind librarian with glasses on a chain appears and kneels down. 'Can I help you find something?' she asks.
Pip opens her mouth, closes it, then whispers, 'I want a book about the stars.'
The librarian leads Pip to a small table and slides a book covered in glittering stars across.
Pip opens it and gasps — tiny sparkly dots float up from the pages.
She hugs the book close and smiles.
The stars swirl around her, and Pip finally feels at home.
