Pip followed the glowing butterfly into the Whispering Woods. Leaves whispered around her as she tiptoed after it. But the butterfly fluttered higher and vanished among the branches.
Pip stopped. The trees looked different here. She turned around and gasped — the path behind her was gone. Where was she?
A flash of red streaked past her nose. 'You're going the wrong way, little hedgehog!' chirped Mr. Squirrel, flicking his bushy tail toward a trail of red leaves.
Pip followed the red leaves for a while. But the trail looped right back to the same hollow log. 'Oh dear,' she whispered.
'Follow the silver stream,' hooted Ollie the owl from a branch above. 'It sings you home.' Pip walked until she heard the sparkly water nearby.
But a big fallen log blocked the bank. Pip's quills got stuck in the bark. 'Oh,' said Pip. The log wouldn't budge.
The squirrel scampere, the owl spotted a root lever, and the frog croaked a steady rhythm. Together they rolled the log just enough for Pip to wiggle through.
Pip squeezed through and heard her nest rustling nearby. The front door glowed warm and yellow. She stepped inside and curled up on her bed of dried leaves.
