The meadow was big and noisy. Pip pulled back into his burrow.
He peeked out, then peeked away again. Too big. Too loud. Safer inside.
Something scratched at his door. Pip opened it just a crack.
A baby bird stood there, trembling. It nudged a silver feather toward Pip.
Pip took one brave step outside. BUZZ — a bumblebee zoomed past his nose!
The bumblebee landed on a dandelion and stared. Pip tiptoed past, eyes on the feather.
The grass grew tall and blocked the view. Pip pushed through — nearly stepping on a ladybug!
The ladybug waved her legs. The baby bird fluttered ahead and dropped the feather on a smooth stone.
Pip crept toward a low hedge. A tiny yellow bird sat there, waiting.
But the baby bird fluttered down — not to the hedge — and landed on Pip's back.
The baby bird chirped a happy song. Pip stood very still and listened.
Pip smiled. The meadow didn't seem so big anymore.
