Pip hopped over a mossy boulder. He froze. Ahead, a giant dinosaur drank from the bubbling stream.
Pip's front foot hovered above a fern frond. The dinosaur lifted its head and looked right at him.
Pip scrambled toward the stream bank. The water rushed too fast, sweeping a leaf away. He whimpered and pressed against a boulder.
The dinosaur lowered its neck and nudged a flat stone into the stream. Pip's eyes followed the stone, then the dinosaur's careful eye.
Pip hopped onto the stone, then leaped to another. Each splash grew smaller. The dinosaur's breath rumbled like distant thunder.
In the middle of the stream, the current tugged at Pip's legs. He slipped and cold water soaked his belly.
The dinosaur stepped forward and planted its foot firmly in the stream. It lowered its head until Pip saw his own reflection in the dinosaur's eye.
Pip climbed onto the dinosaur's snout. The dinosaur turned and walked slowly toward the far bank. Each step was deliberate.
Pip hopped onto soft moss on the other side. He turned to the dinosaur and tapped his foot twice. The dinosaur blinked slowly.
The dinosaur let out a low hum that vibrated through the ground. Pip tapped his foot twice in reply. They sat together under a giant fern.
Dragonflies danced over the stream. Pip watched them, his foot still. The dinosaur hummed softly. A new friend sat beside him.
The fern frond swayed gently. The stream bubbled on. Pip closed his eyes and listened to the dinosaur's low, rumbling hum.
