Pip Puddle reached the classroom door. BANG! Paper stars fluttered down. “Oh!” Pip Puddle whispered.
Pip Puddle peeked inside. Chairs scraped, children chattered, and bright pictures covered the walls.
Pip Puddle stepped in and squeezed the backpack straps. An empty seat waited near a table.
A pencil rolled across the floor. It stopped beneath Pip Puddle’s shoe.
Pip Puddle picked it up. “Is this yours?” A child nodded.
Pip Puddle carried the pencil over. It gave one silly roll toward the cubbies. Roll, roll!
Pip Puddle caught the pencil and brought it back. Then Pip Puddle sat beside the friendly child.
The teacher said, “Good morning.” Pip Puddle answered with the friendly child. Click, click—their pencils tapped.
Pip Puddle opened a new notebook. The friendly child leaned close to see.
Pip Puddle drew a bright door. The friendly child added a star. Two pencils rested side by side.
Crayons rolled. Children chattered. Pip Puddle smiled beside two new friends at one table.
Pip Puddle looked at the bright door on the page. Beside it, three stars shone.
