The young hedgehog peeks from behind a red-spotted toadstool. Beyond it, the meadow shimmers with gold and blue light.
He thought, I want to go. He pulled his leaf blanket tighter around himself.
"Lost… lost…" A tiny voice drifts through the grass. A firefly darts past the nose and bumps a leaf.
The firefly hovers in slow, confused circles. The little hedgehog freezes, whiskers twitching.
The young hedgehog steps forward and holds out a trembling paw. "Come here," he says.
The firefly lands on the nose, warm and ticklish. The little hedgehog walks toward the glowing edge.
The meadow explodes with light! Butterflies with star-pattern wings flutter down, and a frog croaks a happy hello.
The hedgehog's leaves fall open. He sits in the golden grass and reaches for the sparkles.
