Pip drifted along the cobblestone street. He tried to stay small and invisible.
BOO-hiccup! A burst of bright blue light shot out. Pip's ears drooped as a lantern flickered and died.
Pip pressed against the cold wall. He waited until everything was quiet again.
He tiptoed past the next lantern. Another hiccup-BOO erupted, and the flame roared back to life!
Pip covered his mouth. He glanced down the street at three dark lanterns waiting in the shadows.
The village square held the biggest lantern of all. Pip marched toward it with his chin up.
Pip drew a deep breath and let out his mightiest BOO-hiccup. Nothing happened.
His shoulders slumped. He stared at his own hands and thought, "Maybe I'm just no good at this."
Then a tiny squeaky hiccup slipped out. The great lantern erupted in rainbow light!
The rainbow glow spread from the big lantern to every corner of the square.
Every lantern in the village blazed with Pip's rainbow glow. Children peered from their doorways, pointing and gasping.
Pip floated in the middle of the street, no longer hiding. His hiccup-boo flickered proudly.
