Pip squeezed through a curtain of tall grass into the meadow. Sun warmed his brown fur. A flash of blue wings darted past his nose. "Oof!" Pip blinked.
A tiny blue butterfly sat on a purple flower, wings trembling. Pip crouched and held out a paw. The butterfly lifted off, circled once, then landed on a dandelion. It pointed its head toward the trees and fluttered a few steps.
They walked past a patch of clover. The butterfly stopped to sip from a tiny white flower. Pip waited, then tiptoed ahead. It fluttered after him, bumped his ear, and zipped back to the flower. Pip sighed and scratched his nose.
The butterfly landed on Pip's head. He froze. The butterfly tilted its wings like a little umbrella, blocking the sun. Pip giggled. The butterfly hopped down and took off straight toward the tall oaks at the meadow's edge. Pip scrambled after it.
The butterfly landed on a bright red mushroom right beside a familiar hollow tree. A swarm of blue butterflies spilled out from behind the leaves. Pip's ears perked up.
The butterflies fluttered around him in a spinning rainbow. Pip spun with them until they all settled onto the flowers. He sat down among the blooms and smiled.
The butterflies settled onto the flowers around him, their blue wings folding like tiny umbrellas. Pip sat very still, watching them rest. The meadow was quiet and sweet.
A gentle breeze rustled the tall grass. The meadow stretched out in every direction, full of flowers and light. Pip closed his eyes and listened to the world hum.
