Pip nosed through the tall grass. Ahead, a sunbeam touched a patch of golden clover, making it glow.
Pip sniffed the clover. It smelled like honey and warm earth, and his whiskers twitched with delight.
Pip hopped left, then right. “What should I do?” he wondered, circling the shining patch.
Pip called to a bumblebee. “Come see!” The bee hummed, zipped past, and vanished among the flowers.
Pip called to a ladybug. “Come see!” She counted the spots on her shell and marched away.
Pip called to a frog. “Come see!” The frog croaked hello, then slipped into the stream.
Pip turned back toward the clover. His ears drooped, but he kept searching through the grass.
Then a giggle came from behind a dandelion. A family of field mice peeked out, their eyes wide at the golden patch.
Pip lifted his paws. “Please share the clover with me!” The family hurried over, whispering and laughing.
Soon, everyone gathered around the shimmering patch. The clover swayed as the friends settled close together.
They nibbled the sweet clover leaves together. Tiny munching sounds mixed with the stream’s gentle gurgle.
Pip’s tail wagged while the sun dipped lower. Gold light spilled across the clover and the quiet meadow.
Pip lay back among the clover. He listened to the stream’s gentle gurgle and smiled at the golden sky.
The stream gurgled. The clover shimmered. Pip stayed there, listening as evening settled over the meadow.
