Zara peeked out her window. Dark clouds swallowed Adventure Bay. Wind whipped the trees.
She raced to the pups' lookout. 'Everyone, listen!' she shouted. But the pups just wagged their tails.
Zara huffed. She marched back into the storm, her bright yellow raincoat flapping behind her.
First she tried carrying sandbags to the riverbank. Her arms were too small. The bags were too heavy.
Next she ran door to door. But everyone was already safe inside. No one answered her knock.
On her third try, Zara grabbed a rope. She tied it to a wobbly mailbox and pulled until it slipped. She landed in a soft pile of leaves.
The pups heard her frustrated cry. They galloped toward her through the howling wind.
Ryder held up a map. Zuma splashed through rising water. Rocky tossed Zara a harness. Together they marched.
Zara pointed the way. The pups followed her directions like she was the leader.
A huge tree crashed across the only road. Rain hammered so hard Zara could barely see.
'On three!' Zara shouted. Everyone pushed together. The tree rolled free with a loud crack.
The clouds split and sunshine flooded Adventure Bay. Zara sat on her doorstep surrounded by the pups. Her newest friends.
