Puff clicked on his tiny lantern. The cave woke up in a soft golden glow. He unrolled a blank scroll and picked up his blue crayon.
Puff slapped the scroll flat and scribbled 27 times 0.9. His tongue poked out in concentration. 'That has to be right,' he thought.
A ladybug crawled across the paper. Puff counted her spots out loud. 'One, two, three...' The ladybug marched off with a shiny trail behind her.
Puff scratched out the answer and wrote 8347 plus 2913. The numbers were too big for the page. They wobbled and slid right off the edge.
The numbers tumbled onto the stone floor. 'Oh no!' Puff gasped. But the digits began to glow with a soft blue light.
The numbers crawled back up the scroll like tiny blue ants. They rearranged themselves into a long string of digits. Puff's eyes went wide.
The answer appeared: 24304711. The digits sparkled and swirled around Puff's horns. 'It worked!' he whispered.
Puff traced the answer with his claw. Every number felt like magic. He rolled up the scroll and held it close.
Puff placed the scroll on his nightstand. His eyelids grew heavy. The cave felt safe and quiet.
He tucked himself under his quilt and curled into a ball. The scroll rested against his chest, still softly glowing.
The fireflies dimmed to a warm amber glow. Puff hummed a sleepy tune. The cave was quiet and still.
Puff dreamed of numbers dancing in the dark. His big smile stayed on his face all through the night.
