The tower vine hung down to the grass. Rapunzel reached far below, fingers closing on a leaf.
She walked along the flower path. Her companion hopped ahead, little claws clicking on stone.
At the fork the flowers ended. The lizard looked right, then flicked its tongue toward the dark trees.
At the forest edge, the lizard disappeared behind a tall fern. Rapunzel pushed through the green.
A wall of thorns blocked the way. The lizard dove into the thorns. Two green eyes glowed, then vanished.
Rapunzel pulled the lizard's tail. The bramble split open — warm light spilled out.
Through the glowing path the girl followed. Moonlight painted silver patches on the moss.
Back in her room, the lizard tucked against her cheek. She stroked his smooth back. The door stayed open.
